Multicultural Festival

The Downtown Nanaimo Business Improvement Association present’s the popular Multicultural Festival that will take over the Old City Quarter on Saturday, June 23. Interactive information booths, demonstrations, folk performers, street vendors and the International Food Fair on Wesley Street will be part a one-day street party celebrating the diversity of cultures that make up our community. The Downtown Nanaimo Business Improvement Association invites people of all ages to come out and enjoy this diverse festival. The day will begin with a Snuneymuxw First Nations prayer, song and dance by local performers, continues with folk performers including a Lion Dance, Celtic music, belly dancing, multiple demonstrations of ethnic activities. The children’s craft and play area will feature face painting, international crafts, a bouncy castle and children’s entertainers.  The day closes with a 16 piece Cuban folk dancing company.

Nanaimo Artwalk – Summer 2012
All locations are open from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm

Nanaimo Centre Stage will be playing host to twelve artists as location number 10 in this summer’s Nanaimo Artwalk.  With 39 artists participating at 16 different locations downtown and in the old city quarter, the artwalk will be the perfect chance to spend a summer day browsing for treasures and enjoying local talent.

Artists featured at NCS include: Keiko Bottomley, Tara Cook, Mary Ann Fleming, Walter Frankoski, Shelley Friesen, April Laurie, Majie Lavergne, Brian Pothier, Aaramë, Carla Stein, Robert Waddell, and Lorna Zaback.
